INTRODUCTION

The Department of Periodontology is situated on the Second floor of the main college building. The department deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the supporting structures of the teeth & treatment of diseases affecting the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth or their substitutes, such as dental implants. Apart from procedures aimed at maintaining gum health, the specialists routinely perform cosmetic periodontal procedures such as tissue reduction and tissue grafts to improve the esthetics of patients. Moreover, every patient is motivated and educated to maintain good oral hygiene. The specialty also concerns itself with the maintenance of health, function and esthetics of these structures and tissues. The Department of Periodontology at the Rural Dental College, Loni offers a graduate, three-year postgraduate program leading to a master of Dental Surgery degree and Ph. D. degree awarded by the Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences, Deemed to be University, Loni. The advance training program in periodontology is approved and accredited by the Dental Council of India.
